book review

I'm going to start posting a few of these, they're pretty fun to do, might submit a few to magazines or something.

Title: Captain Corelli's Mandolin

Author: Louis De Bernieres

Publisher: Vintahe

Rating: aaaa

Review: Although it starts off a little slow, and is steeped in description of the idyllic Greek island of Cephallonia, this novel blooms into a beautiful and classic love story. The minor characters, the drunken priest, the strongman, the unconvetional soldier, are just as well developed as the leads, Antonio and Pelagia. As the outside world descends into chaos as WW2 spreads, the novel becomes darker, told from many different perspectives. The novel challenges the reader's view point on war, history and conventional love. I found this to be a genuinely moving book, which stays with the reader long after the final pages.

Quote: "He let his rifle rust, even lost it once or twice, but he won battles armed only with a mandolin"
